I'm a trauma informed integrative counsellor and psychotherapist
As a MBACP Accredited trauma-informed integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I embody a compassionate and holistic approach to supporting individuals on their healing journey. I believe in creating a safe and empowering space where clients can explore their experiences, challenge their beliefs, and find the strength to overcome their traumas or challenges they may be facing in life.
My experience enables me to offer effective individualised, therapeutic care to both adults and children (8+ due to online work capacity). I work with a number of mental health concerns, ranging from anxiety to psychosis, and provide a neutral space for individuals to discover what they need by listening and customising the counselling specifically for their personal growth.
Understanding trauma is not confined to a single event, I recognize that it can manifest in various ways and impact every area of a person's life. With this awareness, I prioritise the integration of various therapeutic modalities and techniques to cater to the unique needs of each client. By combining elements from different approaches such as cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness, psychodynamic therapy, and somatic therapy, I strive to offer a well-rounded and individualised therapeutic experience.
I understand the imprint of narcissistic abuse, coercive/controlling behaviour and other domestic abuse impacts. Having engaged in comprehensive training alongside personal exposure I can ensure depth of understanding and how such abuse can go unnoticed for many years and yet leave a lasting impression.
I place great emphasis on building a trusting and collaborative relationship with clients. I believe that a strong therapeutic alliance is foundational to the healing process. By offering a non-judgmental and empathetic space, I allow clients to feel validated and understood, fostering a sense of safety and security.
Central to my approach is the understanding that trauma often disrupts an individual's ability to regulate emotions and cope with stress. I encourage clients to develop self-awareness and emotional resilience, empowering them to positively manage their emotions and reactions. Through various therapeutic techniques, such as grounding exercises, breathwork, nervous system regulation, brainspotting, mindfulness and creative interventions and practices, we work together to restore a sense of balance and stability. Creative interventions and brainspotting can work well for those who feel stuck or unable to talk about their experiences.
Additionally, I recognize the importance of addressing the impact of trauma on the body. Somatic experiencing techniques enable clients to reconnect with their bodies, release stored tension, and regain a sense of empowerment over their physical selves. This integration of mind and body enhances the therapeutic process, promoting deeper healing and integration.
Throughout the therapeutic journey, I prioritise practicing sensitivity to the unique needs and experiences of individuals who have gone through trauma. By incorporating trauma education, empowerment, and respect for autonomy, I aim to support clients in reclaiming control over their lives and rediscovering their inherent strengths.
Understanding that the healing process unfolds at its own pace, I am patient and flexible in my approach. I celebrate each client's progress, no matter how small, and provide ongoing support as they navigate their personal healing journey.
